Financial Elder Abuse Results in Arrest
One man's income has come to a dead halt after authorities realized that he had been spending his dead uncle's money for a month.
Detectives arrested Patrick Lara on charges of elder abuse and involuntary manslaughter last week in connection to the death of his 63-year-old uncle, Adrian Lugo. They believe that when Lugo broke his arm Lara left him to waste away on his bed so that he could spend the older man's money. Lara even prevented other family members from seeing Lugo while he ran around town using his uncle's money.
The authorities believe that he was going to skip town once he had gone through enough of Lugo's funds. They found his body rotting and decomposing at the house. However, since an autopsy has shown no clear cause of death just yet, authorities have not been able to successfully pin a murder charge on him.
