Unconscious Cab Driver Causes Auto Accident
When a cabbie is believed to have lost consciousness behind the wheel, 25 people were injured as he plowed through a San Diego crowd.
San Diego police have yet to release the cabbie's identity, only that he is 48 years old and was released from custody last Saturday. However, they are far from closing the case for the accident that seriously injured seven people, including one woman whose leg was severed off below the knee.
According to Maurice Luque, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman, the driver did not appear to be drunk when he his camp jumped the curb outside of the Stingaree night club in the historic Gaslamp Quarter. He added that it "appears to have been a horrible accident." To make things worse the cabbie was then beaten up by those who watched the accident happen.
At this time no charges have been pressed against the taxi driver. He is employed by the Emerald Cab driver and leases a taxi from them.
