Hit and Run Reported in Escondido
A hit-and-run car accident in Escondido is keeping detectives busy this week.
According to police reports, the victim, 18-year-old Miguel Rojas, was driving a minivan when it collided with a Lexus. The impact was so severe that his vehicle caught on fire, causing his death. Family members told police that Rojas was simply pulling out of his aunt's driveway when the Lexus struck him out of nowhere. The driver and two passengers then left the vehicle and ran away from the scene of the crime.
The medical reports show that Miguel was left unattended for a short period of time. As a result, he perished due to smoke inhalation and injuries caused by the car accident. A few hours later, police were able to identify and locate the driver of the Lexus, Juan Carlos Carillo, 20. He was taken into custody and charged with driving without a license and felony hit and run. Officers are still searching for the two passengers, and are asking for the public's help in identifying and bringing these two men in.
