Pair Hits Whale and Boat Accident Ensues
While most people would be excited to see a whale swimming nearby their boat, two people were injured after their watercraft reportedly hit one last weekend.
According to the San Diego police department, the two boaters - a woman and her 79-year-old father - were out on their 18 foot speedboat. They were traveling at a speed of 10 mph when they hit what they described as an invisible wall while heading opposite an island. A man on a jet ski witnessed the incident and told officers that it looked as though the boaters had hit a whale.
Further reports of a gray whale sighting have been made before and since the incident in San Diego Bay. Although whales are not common in the bay, they may occasionally wander into the area on their migration from Baja to the Bering Sea. The two boaters reportedly suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment following the incident.
