Teenager Takes SUV without Permission and Causes Car Accident
A teenage boy is not only in trouble with his parents, but with the law, after taking their SUV for a ride without their permission.
Tragedy struck when the 15-year-old boy was driving on Sea World Drive when he suddenly missed his exit. Rather than get off at the next exit, he put the 1998 Toyota 4-Runner into reverse. In the process of backing up, he ran into a 1979 Mercury LTD that was heading westbound on the roadway. The vehicle was driven by 77-year-old James Cummins, who lost his life as a result of the car accident.
When officers arrived on the scene of the collision, the young boy was nowhere to be seen. Several witnesses saw him get out of the vehicle and run away from the auto accident and he was later found hiding in some nearby bushes. The boy's parents were then called by authorities.
Cummins was transported to the UCSD Medical Center where he lost his life a few hours later. At this time, no charges have been filed against the teenager, although they could be filed later this week.
