Tragic Wrongful Death Suit Coming to a Close
The last chapter of the tragedy that took nine firefighters lives in Charleston, SC will soon be closed.
According to court documents, the final settlement between the families of the nine men's families and the multiple defendants named in the wrongful death suit. Several defendants were released from the lawsuit, including Goldstein Family Limited Partnership; Herbert A. Goldstein LLC; Sofa Super Store, Inc; and Furniture Retailers of Charleston, Inc.
Speaking about the lawsuit, Heather Baity, who lost her husband Rodney Baity, commented that: "My children and I, as well as the other Charleston 9 families, have suffered such an immense loss that no other family should ever have to endure. My hope is that we [...] call attention to the negligence and failures that led to the tragedy." Since the settlement has been approved by the court and all parties, it signifies the end of all litigation relating to the fire that occurred on June 18, 2007.
The Sofa Super Store fire represented the greatest tragedy to take firefighter's lives since September 11, 2001.
