Victim of Pedestrian Accident Identifies

The pedestrian killed last week on Avenue Q has finally been identified.

Police reports show that the victim, 59-year-old Eusebio Pena Martinez, was crossing the avenue in the 2800 block when a passenger van struck him. The impact was so great that Martinez was tossed into the air, 50 feet from where he was first struck. While he was immediately transported to the University Medical Center, he died just a few hours later at 11 p.m.

At this time, the Lubbock Police Department has not issued a citation nor arrested the driver of the van, David Hernandez Rocha, 50. The police have also ruled out speed and alcohol as causes in their preliminary investigation.
