Young Boy Says Helmet Saved His Life
A young boy who was injured in a bicycle accident last week received a special present in the hospital.
Police reports show that the victim, 9-year-old Keith Norton, was struck by a SUV while riding his bike to school. He was then pinned underneath the SUV until firefighters were able to free him from the wreck. Norton was then taken to Rady Children's Hospital to be treated for his injuries, including a broken leg along with several cuts and scrapes.
When Norton returned to school, officers from the El Cajon police department held a special assembly for the young boy. They discussed the importance of bicycle safety, such as the helmet that Norton was wearing at the time of the accident. The officers told the students that the helmet had saved Norton's life, and to praise him for wearing the helmet, they presented Norton with a new helmet and bike.
