Fog Partly to Blame for Pedestrian Accident
Fog is partly to blame for the death of Albert Lee Holman, 34, who was walking along Route 56 last October.
Nicoll Koval, 23, was driving along the highway when she struck Holman on Oct. 19 between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. However, she didn't stop to see if he needed assistance, but drove away instead. She has now been charged with felony hit and run causing death. Upon her hearing she could receive up to four years in prison or placed on probation, a fate that will be decided on June 3 at the San Diego Superior Court. At this time she remains out of custody on a $50,000 bond.
According to Deputy District Attorney John Pro no deals or offers were made for her sentencing.
Witnesses to the car accident saw Holman walking along the road after two of his tires went flat. His body was later called in to 911 when a driver had to swerve to avoid hitting it. Although Koval's initial reaction was the drive away, she later turned herself into authorities. Her story was confirmed when they discovered front-end damage to her vehicle as well as the victim's shoe lodged into the carriage of Koval's car.
