Children Seek Compensation for Wrongful Death
Devastated by the loss of their father, the children of a Chicago firefighter have decided to file suit against the owners of the building where he died.
The firefighter lost his life while attempting to put out a fire on December 22nd. He would have made it out safely if the roof had not collapsed during the fire, trapping him inside. According to his son and daughter, the owner of the building failed to maintain a safe living environment, ultimately leading to the unnecessary death of their loved one.
The 47-year-old was not the only one to lose his life that day. He was joined by a fellow firefighter, a 34-year-old man, who was present when the roof collapsed.
The wrongful death lawsuit is asking for more than $100,000 in unspecified damages from the building owners. In addition to monetary compensation, they want building owners in the city to be held to more stringent safety codes.
