Women More Likely to Suffer Injuries during Car Accidents
According to a new study released just this month, women are at a greater risk of sustaining serious injuries during a car accident than their male counterparts.
This months' issue of a public health magazine revealed that women are 47% more likely to be injured in a car accident than men. The reason for the disparity simply boils down to the fact that safety equipment is not geared to protect women as well as men. Since women's bodies are generally shorter and lighter than males, the safety equipment is not designed to account for these important differences.
The authors of the study hope that their findings will encourage the auto making industry to take note and make changes. In order to reduce the number of serious injuries sustained by females in car accidents, it is up to automakers to design safety equipment that better protects females. The study is already under fire by a major news network that stated that the findings just do not apply to modern cars.
