Port of Entry Shut Down after Construction Accident
A port of entry in San Diego, California was shut down for several hours after eleven workers lost their lives in a construction accident.
According to news sources, scaffolding collapsed onto fifteen vehicles in which eight victims became instantly trapped. Several more victims who were working on and around the 50 foot by 50 foot scaffolding were injured as well, prompting the responding officers to call local ambulance companies for assistance. Luckily, only one man was considered seriously injured; the rest sustained minor but non-life-threatening injuries.
The workers were part of an expansion project at the port. As with any workplace accident, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified immediately. Several representatives will be dispatched to the scene of the accident to determine whether further work can be completed on the site.
