Woman Accused of Causing Fatal Car Accident Faces Vehicular Manslaughter Charges
A woman accused of crashing into a bus stop shelter in June of 2011 has waived her right to a preliminary hearing and will face trial on March 28, 2012. She faces up to 12 years in prison for gross vehicular manslaughter. The 72-year-old defendant is accused of crashing her PT Cruiser into a bus stop on the 4800 block of University Avenue in City Heights, killing a woman and causing serious injuries to the woman's boyfriend and 4-year-old son.
The defendant in this case is also accused of driving on a suspended license, which had been suspended for medical reasons. According to the Deputy District Attorney handling the case, she has three prior non-injury accidents since 2006, all involving similar circumstances, where her blood-sugar level was very low.
In cases where a person is accused of causing a car accident, there is a possibility that they will face criminal charges (such as the woman in this situation) and also that the injured party will file a
wrongful death or
personal injury lawsuit. If you or someone you know was injured by a negligent,
drunk or simply careless driver, it is important to consider involving an attorney who can help you seek justice.
