While corporations are often getting sued in premises liability claims, the cases do not always go through nor do they become public. One such case has defied both odds and netted one man over $7 million for a serious injury.
The man was at a chain coffee restaurant in 2008 picking up an order of coffee. He slipped on an area of floor that had just recently been mopped up. The victim suffered a mild concussion that was later diagnosed as having been more serious. Since the accident he has undergone a year of brain-injury therapy but has been unable to return to work.
His family sued the corporation for causing the injury. Even though the employee that had mopped the floor put out some cones, witnesses state that just one cone was visible when the accident happened. The man was awarded $7.5 million that is meant to pay for his medical bills, loss of enjoyment of life and loss of income.
