| Police Say Man's Death was Caused by Fall From Galf Cart |
| Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Lawyer |
 |
Although they aren't sure exactly what happened just yet, the California Highway Patrol believes that a man's death was the result of a fall from a golf cart. Since this incident technically involved a vehicle, the golf cart, the CHP was called in to this case that normally may not fall under their jurisdiction.
Gregg Lypps, 41, was out golfing at the Pala Mesa Resort when he was discovered to be injured. There were many people at the resort for an event that day, however, nobody has stepped forward to say how or why Lypps fell off the back of the golf cart.
According to CHP Captain Deb Schroder, "Unfortunately, there was a lot of people at this event and we just don't know right now who is actually involved." Investigators believe that an 18-year-old may have been driving the golf cart that Lypps was on, but that person has already retained an attorney and isn't talking to the press or the California Highway Patrol.

| Mother of Five Dies during DUI Accident |
| Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Lawyer |
 |
A mother leaves behind five children after becoming involved in a drunk driving accident.
California Highway Patrol believe that alcohol was a factor in the accident that caused Virginia Esparza, 34, to lose control of her vehicle on Highway 119 while leaving a hit-and-run accident. She was a single mom whose children are devastated by their loss. The oldest and only daughter, 18-year-old Crystal Martinez, will have to fend for her family now that their mother is gone. An account will be set up for the children by the Esparza family at the Kern Schools Federal Credit Union in their behalf.
Esparza was on her way to pick up her boyfriend and, although police believe alcohol to be involved, her family is claiming that she was not a very frequent drinker and that this entire event seems out of character for her. Her boyfriend was a passenger in the car at that time and remains in the hospital in a coma at this time.

| Teen Gets Short Sentence for Drunk Driving Accident |
| Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Attorney |
 |
A young man got a short sentence for the serious tragedy he inflicted on one family in San Diego. The 17-year-old boy, whose name is protected because he is in juvenile court, was drunk and high when he ran his car off of a road in Oceanside, killing a man and striking his grandchild. The 18-month-old boy will now be blind for life and has serious brain damage.
For his crime the juvenile received 480 days in a youthful offender program.
At the time of his prosecution two months ago, the boy pleaded guilty to felony drunken driving. The Deputy District Attorney Mary Loeb reminded Judge Dwayne Moring that the boy was also driving without a license when he lost control of his car on that fateful morning on October 18.
The older man and his grandson had been walking along the sidewalk at that time.
There were three other passengers in the car who fled the scene of the crime. Lucy Verde, the mother of the impaired child, criticizes the teen for failing to apologize until a month after the drunk driving accident occurred.

| Toddler Hit by Drunk Driver |
| Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Attorney |
 |
An Oceanside police lieutenant said Tuesday that a toddler that was critically injured in a drunk driving accident has been upgraded to serious condition. The accident occurred when a teenage driver, who is suspected to have been drunk, drove his sport utility vehicle into the toddler and the toddler's grandfather.
Abraham Verde of Oceanside was pushing a stroller containing the toddler at 9:21 a.m. when both were hit by the out-of-control vehicle. After striking the grandfather and child, the car then hit a home. Verde was seriously injured in the crash, but Lt. Leonard Mata reports that he has since been released.
It's believed by police investigators that the crash happened when the 17-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle while speeding and attempting to turn onto a private road. The teen fled the scene of the accident, but was stopped by police later on suspicion of drunken driving.
It has been undetermined by prosecutors as to whether the 17-year-old will be tried as a juvenile or an adult. Investigators are looking into how the driver obtained the alcohol.

| Junior Seau Drives Car Off Cliff |
| Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Attorney |
 |
Junior Seau of former Chargers fame drove his car off a 30-foot coastal bluff in Carlsbad early Monday morning. This was just hours after he had been jailed for possibly assaulting his girlfriend. However, Seau states that the two incidents were unrelated, that it was not emotional distress that caused him to drive off the bluff, but rather sleepiness.
The ex-wife of this 12-time Pro Bowl linebacker, Gina Seau, believes that it was just a car accident and that the father of their three children would not intentionally try to harm himself. She also stated that the arrest and the crash had no relation on one another, that "he's fine. He's upset...He's going to get through this, and he's going to move on."

| 11 Year Old Suffers Injuries during Bike Accident |

On Monday, police say that a driver hit an 11-year-old who was riding his bicycle in front of an elementary school. Supposedly, the child rode his bicycle into the middle of the street and directly into the path of the oncoming van, resulting in a bicycle accident.
Police say the incident occurred at around 8:47 AM in front of Sepulveda Elementary School. Officers say the van's tire ran over the 11-year-old's legs after the vehicle hit him and knocked him off of his bike.
The child had to be taken to Renown Medical Center to receive treatment for his injuries, which appeared to be fairly minor considering the severity of the accident.
Officers say the 73-year-old driver had just dropped off a grandchild at the elementary school and was traveling northbound when the student drove his bike into the vehicle's path. The bicycle did not have any brakes and the 11-year-old was not wearing a helmet.

This week, it was reported that a car veered off of State Route 163 in Hillcrest, California. The vehicle then crashed into a police cruiser parked in the center divider. After the car accident, numerous people, including the police patrol woman, had to be sent to the hospital. The crash also led to the freeway being closed on one side.
Police say the San Diego police officer was pulled over in the median along the southbound side of the freeway at 11:15 AM and was trying to assist a driver whose car had broken down. Within minutes, she saw a car swerving off of the freeway and noticed that it was heading in her direction. | Man Ordered to Stand Trial for Hit and Run in San Diego |
| Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Attorney |
 |
In San Diego, a judge ordered an 18-year-old man to stand trial for a hit and run charge that stemmed from a July 9th auto accident, which killed a four-year-old boy in Encanto.
Samuel Metu was charged with running over the four-year-old, Jameson Darapheth, in the middle of Madrone Avenue. The child had run into the roadway where he was hit by the Chevy Malibu vehicle that was driven by Metu.
It is reported that Metu was following his mother down the street and after the collision he did not stop. Instead, he drove to a nearby gas station. 20 minutes later, he returned to the scene of the accident and cooperated with police officers. This information was revealed by testimony at a preliminary hearing in San Diego Superior Court.
Now, Metu is facing one felony charge of hit and run causing death.
According to Metu's lawyer, he was distracted and looking off to the left at another child when the four-year-old entered the street. The lawyer is asking that a judge reduced the charges to a misdemeanor saying the boy's death was merely a tragic accident. However, the judge refused to do this.

In a trial for a woman that stands accused of killing four people in northern San Diego during an auto accident, the jury has told the judge that they are deadlocked.
Superior Court jurors sent a note to the judge this week, which prompting the defendant's (Deanna Fridley) attorney to ask for a mistrial. In the mean time, prosecutors are trying to have a lone holdout juror replaced.
If she is convicted, Fridley will face life imprisonment as she was charged with four counts of second-degree murder. At 1:30 PM, another accident occurred in downtown San Diego.
