Police Say Man's Death was Caused by Fall From Galf Cart
Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Lawyer

Although they aren't sure exactly what happened just yet, the California Highway Patrol believes that a man's death was the result of a fall from a golf cart. Since this incident technically involved a vehicle, the golf cart, the CHP was called in to this case that normally may not fall under their jurisdiction.

Gregg Lypps, 41, was out golfing at the Pala Mesa Resort when he was discovered to be injured. There were many people at the resort for an event that day, however, nobody has stepped forward to say how or why Lypps fell off the back of the golf cart.

According to CHP Captain Deb Schroder, "Unfortunately, there was a lot of people at this event and we just don't know right now who is actually involved." Investigators believe that an 18-year-old may have been driving the golf cart that Lypps was on, but that person has already retained an attorney and isn't talking to the press or the California Highway Patrol.

Police Cracking Down on Drivers Using Cell Phones
Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Attorney

In San Diego, local law enforcement officers are saying that you should not talk on your phone while driving unless you have a hands-free device. This week in particular, police officers will be looking out for drivers who have cell phones up to their ears.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol say they plan to target places that are well-known for being car accident prone.  Officer Mary Bailey with the CHP said, "We are going to up our enforcement throughout the county and then, specifically, look for places where we know cell-phone usage is a contributing factor. People that are on the freeway or people at stoplights."

According to Bailey, in 2008, 1,200 drivers in the state of California were involved in car accidents and admitted that they were using their cell phones when the collisions occurred. During those accidents in particular, 13 people were killed and 900 suffered injuries.

Woman Pinned Between Two Cars during Accident
Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Attorney

On Thursday evening, a San Diego woman was seriously injured after she was pinned between two cars in a Clairemont Mesa strip mall parking lot, say local law enforcement officers.

Police say the 67-year-old victim sustained injuries to both her legs, pelvis, as well as internal injuries.  She was allegedly hit at 5:30 PM by a PT Cruiser that was operated by a 65-year-old woman.  The car had been parked in the lot and the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle after starting it and stepping on the accelerator while the car was in reverse.

Instead of stopping, she continued to drive out of control through the parking lot area and hit the pedestrian who became pinned between the PT Cruiser and a parked automobile.

Following the car accident, the victim had to be taken to a local trauma center.  The collision is still being investigated, but police do not think alcohol was involved.

San Diego Car Accident Kills Two Women
Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Attorney

In San Diego, police report that two women died in a multi vehicle accident while traveling on southbound I-15 at 7:17 PM.  At this time, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office has not released the names of the victims to the public pending notification of the family.

However, police say one of the women was a 19-year-old student and the other was a 21-year-old Hispanic woman who resided with her family in San Diego. Both victims had been friends and passengers in the 2006 Nissan Altima that was heading southbound when it crossed multiple traffic lanes and eventually sideswiped a 2006 Lexus.

After the collision, both of the vehicles ran off of the roadway down a steep embankment.  The Nissan allegedly overturned numerous times before the occupants were ejected.  Paramedics and law enforcement officers were called to the scene of the car accident, but despite their best efforts, both women were pronounced dead.

Driver Hits San Diego Police Officer
Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Attorney

This week, it was reported that a car veered off of State Route 163 in Hillcrest, California.  The vehicle then crashed into a police cruiser parked in the center divider.  After the car accident, numerous people, including the police patrol woman, had to be sent to the hospital.  The crash also led to the freeway being closed on one side.

Police say the San Diego police officer was pulled over in the median along the southbound side of the freeway at 11:15 AM and was trying to assist a driver whose car had broken down.   Within minutes, she saw a car swerving off of the freeway and noticed that it was heading in her direction.  She responded by jumping back into her cruiser car just before it was hit and pushed into the disabled vehicle.

Medics arrived at the scene and took the policewoman and other people involved in the accident to the emergency room for treatment of minor injuries.

Man Ordered to Stand Trial for Hit and Run in San Diego
Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Attorney

In San Diego, a judge ordered an 18-year-old man to stand trial for a hit and run charge that stemmed from a July 9th auto accident, which killed a four-year-old boy in Encanto.

Samuel Metu was charged with running over the four-year-old, Jameson Darapheth, in the middle of Madrone Avenue.  The child had run into the roadway where he was hit by the Chevy Malibu vehicle that was driven by Metu.

It is reported that Metu was following his mother down the street and after the collision he did not stop.  Instead, he drove to a nearby gas station.  20 minutes later, he returned to the scene of the accident and cooperated with police officers.  This information was revealed by testimony at a preliminary hearing in San Diego Superior Court.

Now, Metu is facing one felony charge of hit and run causing death.

According to Metu's lawyer, he was distracted and looking off to the left at another child when the four-year-old entered the street.  The lawyer is asking that a judge reduced the charges to a misdemeanor saying the boy's death was merely a tragic accident.  However, the judge refused to do this.

Pizza Hut Ordered to Pay $11 Million
Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Attorney

This week in San Diego, a jury decided to award a mother and her daughter $11 million dollars.  The pair was awarded the money after they were seriously hurt during an auto accident with a Pizza Hut delivery driver.  According to reports, the driver had a seizure right before the accident occurred in November of 2008.

After deliberating for two hours, the jury awarded damages to 87 year old Olena Novak and 62 year old Shari Novak.  The jurors found that Pizza Hut was negligent in hiring the driver.

James Yukevich, lawyer for the pizza company, said that the driver did not know she was suffering from a "complex seizure disorder" until after the accident had occurs.

Reports indicate that Olena suffered a broken neck and that Shari suffered permanent brain damage and can no longer care for herself.

Sailor Loses Leg during Major Car Crash
Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Attorney

In San Diego, an 18 year old sailor had to be hospitalized after hitting a guardrail.

Reports indicate that during an auto accident, the sailor suffered severe injuries.  Sonar Technician (Surface) 3rd Class Douglas M. Hill lost one leg as it was seriously injured below the knee.  Authorities say that Hill also had to have his other leg amputated.

The California Highway Patrol reports that Hill was driving a 1998 Ford Mustang on Interstate 5 at approximately 2:00 PM.  While driving, his car crossed three lanes of traffic and then smashed into a metal guardrail, eventually flipping over completely.

CHP investigators say that Hill had been speeding at the time of the collision and witnesses report that he was racing other cars during the crash.  One investigator said, "We are looking at different aspects of the investigation... we are not classifying it as a speeding type of accident as of yet."

Investigators have yet to speak with Hill about his accident and are still interviewing witnesses.

Auto Accident Trial may be Declared Mistrial in San Diego
Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Attorney

In a trial for a woman that stands accused of killing four people in northern San Diego during an auto accident, the jury has told the judge that they are deadlocked.

Superior Court jurors sent a note to the judge this week, which prompting the defendant's (Deanna Fridley) attorney to ask for a mistrial.   In the mean time, prosecutors are trying to have a lone holdout juror replaced.

If she is convicted, Fridley will face life imprisonment as she was charged with four counts of second-degree murder.  According to prosecutors, the auto accident was caused because the 26 year old had been driving under the influence of methamphetamine on state Route 76.  Her car hit another vehicle and burst into flames after killing four people.

Many things can cause car accidents, however, driving under the influence happens to be a leading cause.  If you were hit by a drunk driver, you owe it to yourself to obtain help from a San Diego personal injury lawyer by contacting our legal team today!

San Diego Crash Causes Huge Brush Fire
Posted By San Diego Personal Injury Attorney

In San Diego, a single vehicle crash that occurred on the freeway left two people with injuries on Thursday afternoon.  The auto accident also caused a nearby brush fire that supposedly blackened out 10 open acres.

According to officers, the vehicle veered off of Interstate 8 near Carrizo Gorge Road, which is near the Jacumba area.  The vehicle then overturned in the center median.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) says that the accident took place around 2:00 PM.  Immediately following the crash, the brush ignited in the divider and started to burn.  Suddenly, flames and embers from the fire set nearby foliage ablaze, prompting a large fire.

Crews were able to stop the fire from spreading and managed to get control of the blaze by 4:00 PM.  The crew members worked on the ground and also aboard two air tankers and two helicopters.

One of the people involved in the accident had to be airlifted to a trauma center.  It is not yet known if the other victim was hospitalized.
